The Pioneer Yurt is one of six handcrafted backcountry huts operated by Sun Valley Huts, recognized as one of North America's oldest and most distinctive backcountry hut systems, with over 40 years of history. Built with native pine and boards milled by hand from materials sourced on site, the huts combine simple, rustic design with essential comforts. Spread across three Idaho mountain ranges, they serve as base camps for backcountry skiing, trekking, and mountain biking, and as a classroom for outdoor and environmental education programs. Guests can book unguided self-directed stays or guided tours through Sun Valley Guides. The operation, based in Ketchum, is licensed by the Idaho Outfitters and Guides Board and permitted by the Sawtooth National Forest.
