Crystal Cove State Park's federally listed Historic District, between Corona del Mar and Laguna Beach, is an enclave of 46 vintage rustic coastal cottages built as a seaside colony in the 1930s and '40s around the mouth of Los Trancos Creek. Restoration phases by California State Parks and the Crystal Cove Conservancy have returned cottages to overnight public use — currently offered as individual cottages plus dorm-style cottages with private rooms (24 units available for guest stays), steps from the sand. The simple, restored cottages serve as an affordable base for the park's beach, tidepools and backcountry trails. Overnight stays reserve up to six months ahead through ReserveCalifornia.
